Abstract
There is an underlying trait amongst many of the most interesting and successful people in history; their love for writing. Journal keeping, memoirs, and even free verse are some of the areas of writing that these people have enjoyed and practiced religiously. The focus of my paper for 437 is the exploration of this theme throughout history and what aspect of writing is it that helps these figures along their path; whether it is the exercising of the creative faculty, the meticulous stress release of recording the day’s events, or the focusing assistance of planning out a schedule. Writing is a quickly dying phenomenon, the billions of status updates, and millions of blogs have not helped the cause, these things have cheapened it, they have smothered the fire.
