Abstract/Description

The topic I selected for the Evidence Based Project was eliminating blood transfusions errors. I selected this topic because blood transfusions can be a critical lifeline for many patients and steps must be taken in order to eliminate errors in the transfusion process. Common errors include patient misidentification and incorrect blood product sampling and labeling. If these errors occur, they can cause transfusion reactions which can in turn cause patient morbidity and mortality. The purpose of the project was to examine a current blood transfusion policy and make recommendations based on research articles to eliminate blood transfusion errors.
