Abstract/Description

My presentation will analyze the thread between the American Protestant Church and racism in America. Through a literature review of scholarly work and popular resources about race relations in the church in the past several years, I will examine the role that systemic faults have played a part in substantiating racism in the church. I will share interviews conducted at a church in Louisville who has made it its mission to reconcile the differences between minority and majority populations its area. By using information from the interviews, I will note the ways in which the church is a major force in taking steps toward creating a society of racial reconciliation.
