Abstract/Description

This thesis attempts to provide an explanation of the use of baseball to reflect American history as well as elaborate on the sport's role in establishing containment and expanding American influence abroad during the cold war. Through the paper one will be able to fully understand the role of baseball throughout American history. Following the history of baseball from its origins before the civil war to its impact throughout the 20th century, this paper covers most of the key moments while intertwining the sport with events occurring in the United States.
