ASSESSING AG STUDENTS’ INTEREST AND PERCEPTIONS
TO PARTICIPATE IN STUDY ABROAD

ABSTRACT
Participation in international experiences through study abroad is a growing phenomenon in higher education. However, the magnitude of interest in study abroad is different among college students. The objective of this study is to identify students’ interests and perceptions about study abroad as one example of international experiences during college. We focus specifically on the theoretical framework of planned behavior and motivation. Understanding the level of students’ interests and perceptions toward study abroad provides the development of programs to reach the targeted needs of students. Survey and interviews will be conducted to gather the information about the interests, perceptions, motivations and barriers of Ag students regarding to participating in study abroad. Findings from this research would help the college to do advance planning and activities, to make decisions the countries to explore and the need of the students in order to have interest in participating the study abroad. The results offer support for the value of study abroad as the global learning experience. Implications for students and international programs will be discussed in the poster.
