Abstract/Description
This paper discusses the issue of pressure ulcers in long-term care and methods to prevent them. A pressure ulcer is defined as a “localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure in combination with shear” (Mallah, Nassar, & Badr, 2015) . Four articles are explored to find pertinent data on the prevalence of pressure ulcers and best practices to prevent them. While the articles discuss similar methods to prevent pressure ulcers, they also present interventions not commonly practiced. This paper combines the evidence from the four articles to make recommendations for future practice on the prevention of pressure ulcers.
