Her Impact: Honoring the Women of Murray State University

Over the past century, Murray State University has left a lasting mark upon the lives of all who enter. The women of this university hold a particularly crucial impact for guiding future leaders, passing on their dedication, perseverance, and commitment through noteworthy accomplishments. A handful of the most notable Murray State women are featured within this exhibit, each of whom was deliberately chosen for her lasting impact on campus and the local community. The names of Cleo G. Hester, Vivian Hale, Ruth E. Cole, Nancy Tyler Demartra, Jerry Sue Thornton, Nita Head, Kala M. Stroup, Ora Kress Mason, Deena Wigger, Jill Doty-Misner, Heather Samuel, Alexis Love, Delaney Howson, Scottie Ingram, Harriet Withers, Pat Pitney, and Margaret Simmons will forever be known in Murray State University's distinguished history.

Stemming from a variety of academic, athletic, and professional departments, these women have frequently exceeded expectations, breaking free of traditional roles and influencing future developments of the university that are still maintained to this day. Whether a former faculty member, staff member, or even past alumna, each of these Murray State pioneers contributed to a remarkable shift among MSU traditions, and inspired other Murray State scholars and affiliates to follow in their footsteps.
