Abstract
Annie Cox Foust recounts the social and cultural life of the people that resided in the Land Between the Lakes and Marshall County, Kentucky during the first half of the 20th Century. She recalls religious and educational activities and the lack of employment opportunities within the community. She discusses life on a West Kentucky farm from 1900 to 1940. In addition, she describes the communities of Birmingham and Briensburg, Kentucky. The discussion includes reactions of area's inhabitants to the coming of Tennessee Valley Authority and the effects it had upon the social and economic life of the region.
