Abstract
Carrie Wallace discusses the educational system in the Land Between the Lakes region of Kentucky from the time she started school in 1909 and throughout her career as a teacher in the 1970s. She explains the development of rural one room schools and the creation of early high schools in the area. She describes the curriculum, early teachers, grading systems, and the duties and responsibilities of teachers. She details the examination process for teacher certificaiton and the problems involved in teaching at rural s chools. Walalce also mentions the iron industry in Trigg County and the part her family had in the operations of an iron furnace.
