Abstract

Lochie Hart recalls her life in Murray, Kentucky during the first half of the 20th Century. She recalls her first home had no electricity, no icebox and only a tin stove for heat. She reminisced about helping her father plow the fields at the family farm. She describes how her family always traveled by horse and buggy and how her father taught her to make snake grass root tea for medicinal purposes. Hart mentioned that Calloway County had the highest number of tuberculosis cases in the State of Kentucky when she was a child. During the depression, she described that there were many limitations on everyday goods and produce.
