Abstract/Description

Needle stick and sharp injuries are a major cause of damage to health care workers inside of hospitals. Sharp injuries can lead to extraneous costs for the victim and the hospital. Those on the receiving end of sharp injuries can also have physical and mental consequences to their bodies. Prevention of these types of injuries is possible. This project outlines the methods used to decrease needle sticks and other sharp injuries among healthcare workers. A policy should be created that requires the use of needles that only have safety devices attached to them. This policy should also include a mandatory educational seminar, that occurs yearly, the re-educates nurses on the best practice to prevent these type of injuries.
