Abstract/Description

Mental health and the treatment of mental health is an ever-growing problem in the medical field. More than 10 million adults have a mental health diagnosis in the United States alone (“Mental Illness”, 2017). Individuals who have issues with mental health often struggle with control and take pride in the activities they can control. Participating in horticulture therapy is a therapy tool individuals can access to facilitate independence and control over the way their mental health is treated. According to the research, horticulture therapy can decrease stress, symptoms of depression, and schizophrenia. Somatic conditions and cardiopulmonary function have also shown improvement after exposure to natural elements.
