Abstract/Description

Falls occur in every hospital and on every floor. Of all ill and fatal occurrences, falls are one of the most preventable. Many hospital policies have fall reduction programs utilized in their facilities to help decrease these numbers, however these programs are directed toward educating the nurses and the staff. I propose through this evidence-based project, that facilities and staff direct their education efforts to the patients and caregivers. Research shows that educating patients through a multifactorial and individualized approach increases patient awareness and knowledge on falls and therefore decreases occurrence of falls. I feel that this research has strong evidence necessary to be implemented in hospital policy and regulations.
