Abstract/Description

When maternal breast milk is not available, an alternative needs to be used to provide nutrients for preterm or low birth weight infants. Many hospitals are using donor breast milk with a fortifier as the alternative source for maternal breast milk. Some advantages of the standardization of using donor breast milk with a fortifer can help infants by reducing rates of necrotising enterocolitis, decrease infections, improve feeding tolerance, enhance immunity, decrease morbidity, and improve long-term cardiovascular risks. This implementation helps infants have less adverse effects and better outcomes.
