Abstract/Description

Harder to read fonts increase cognitive disfluency (CD; effortful thinking). As immersion in fictional literature produces positive effects, we examined whether CD could influence immersion. Participants read a fictional excerpt written in a fluent or disfluent font, and completed measures of immersion. Results indicated that ease was the biggest factor of predicting immersion, in addition, need for cognition was also a significant predictor.
