Abstract/Description
Pain relief does not always come in a bottle of opioids. The United States is currently in the middle of an opioid crisis. When one goes to the hospital in pain, what is typically the go-to method? The answer is simple…an opioid of some sort, whether it be morphine, hydromorphone, etc. If the United States is experiencing such an opioid crisis, why then is the first reaction of a physician is to prescribe an addictive drug? Before administering an opioid, try a simpler method first such as alternative therapies. Four articles investigate alternative methods for pain such as massage, non-opioid drugs, non-opioid IV medications and several other methods.
