Abstract/Description

This research presentation explores the implementation of alternative glucose testing sites, particularly focusing on the palm, to address concerns of accuracy, patient comfort, and skin integrity. Drawing upon evidence from studies comparing pain perception and glucose results between fingertip and palm testing sites, the paper advocates for policy amendments to include palm testing alongside fingertip testing. Implementation strategies involve staff education and engagement, alongside patient education during discharge teaching, aiming to facilitate acceptance and adoption of palm testing while empowering patients to manage their diabetes effectively. Overall, the comprehensive approach outlined in this presentation aims to enhance patient-centered care and improve the quality of glucose monitoring practices.
