Abstract/Description
Communication barriers within healthcare environments have been linked to significant negative consequences on patient outcomes, particularly among individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP). This project utilizes evidence-based research to investigate the disparities in care experienced by this patient demographic and aspires to advocate for policy modifications that promote healthcare equity. The Language Access Services (LAS) protocol incorporates a systematic five-step approach by utilizing language assessments, identification markers, visual aids, translators, and tailored questionnaires for feedback. This protocol is devised to facilitate an effective information exchange between healthcare personnel and patients while simultaneously striving to enhance patient safety and outcome efficiency.
