Abstract/Description

Patients with intellectual disabilities frequent hospital settings, but often face barriers in communication and care due to altered needs that cannot be expressed. From these barriers hospital staff also experience frustrations in caring for these patients. Research supports that hospital passports are an excellent solution to improving care for patients with intellectual disabilities. These documents create a clear outline for hospital staff of these patients’ individual needs and allow reasonable adjustments to be made. This ensures that high quality care can be provided to all patients while also relieving stress from the healthcare providers. The goal of this project is to spread awareness and encourage hospitals to integrate hospital passports into their admission process.
