INSPIRE Keynote Address: Bridget Fletcher
Author Biography
Bridget Fletcher is associate director of Academic and Student Services as well as the head instructor and course developer for the English Communications Program for Pratt Professional Masters Programs at Duke University.
Fletcher is the author of From Jiao Shi to Classroom: Preparing for Success in the American Graduate School Classroom, a guidebook specifically for Chinese students preparing to come to the United States for graduate school. She received her English as a Second Language teaching certification from Duke University and has also received an Intercultural Foundations certification from the Intercultural Communications Institute. Fletcher is certified to administer the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale as well as the Global Competencies Inventory through the Kozai Group.
She received her B.A. from North Carolina State University, where she studied sociology, and her M.A. from Duke University, where she focused on intercultural communication and completed a master’s project that examined Chinese student acclimation in graduate school in the United States.
Fletcher enjoys traveling and has had the opportunity to travel and work in several countries including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, France, Germany, Switzerland, and India. She also had the opportunity to study abroad in Austria and Mexico. Her favorite part of these travels has been the opportunity to connect with people from other cultures through conversations (both verbal and non-verbal), experiences, and food.
