Abstract/Description
Gender bias within the media, specifically television, is a huge issue in our society. Marika Tiggemann’s study relating to this issue is one of our biggest influences in choosing this topic, as well as stereotypes found in relation to male and female portrayals on screen. Through a set of survey questions distributed to our audience across social media, we will be collecting data pertaining to perception of gender representation in the media, specifically looking at women being portrayed unequally throughout most network television shows. We expect to see that most survey participants will recognize the lack of women in powerful roles on screen but we don’t expect to see them give a reason for that. Our society has just come to accept the fact that men are the boss and women are the leaders, especially in popular television shows.
