PRACTICING WITH TRADITIONAL ART MEDIUMS AND INTEGRATING DIGITAL ART MEDIUMS
Abstract
The debate between artists who prefer either traditional art mediums or digital art mediums may find common ground among those who believe in bringing both categories together. There are a number of questions that need to be answered and subtopics that need to be researched concerning the impact that reliance on digital mediums is having on artistic practices. Traditional methods have been cultivated over thousands of years and every generation has experienced some new and challenging way of making art. Conventional wisdoms passed down in the artmaking process have established a long foundation and each lesson learned may move artists forward and support their creative spirits. Art education can expand if thorough consideration of the use of modern technology and tools is made while maintaining an understanding of what has led to today’s innovations and how they can inform new imagery in the future. The evolution of digital media affects everything, including historical and cultural development, human-to-art connection, and artistic practices.
