Abstract
The drug epidemic has been a growing issue among American citizens for many decades. The negative effects drug addiction has on America continues to impact society. Therefore, drug addiction is affecting many U.S families as well as the individuals addicted. This paper will discuss the drug epidemic in America, the contributing factors that impact drug addiction, the negative effects, healthcare systems, mental health issues, and how to treat drug addiction. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic and the stress it caused among individuals also plays a role in the drug epidemic which will also be discussed. Lastly, the drug epidemic effects Americas economy and our healthcare systems that many Americans are unaware of the crisis that it is causing. Human Service professionals are on the front lines fighting this epidemic with hope that there can be more of a change regarding drug addiction. Therefore, education regarding the drug epidemic in America and how drug addiction affects American citizens should get more attention in society than it does now.
