Abstract
ABSTRACT
For this senior project, this paper will analyze military leadership and the ideas behind them, along with some of the great leaders of the Army throughout our country's history. This paper will focus initially on the Army's Field Manual, defining what Army leadership is and how to be successful in today's military. The Army has a very long and detailed leadership manual, which is how the Army trains the leaders of tomorrow. Then the paper will explain servant leadership and the effect it has on today's Army and why it is so important. Servant leadership is known to be the backbone of the Army and a subject that can be talked about in depth because it is easy to discuss but can be difficult to put into action. Some of the leaders that will be discussed in this research paper are people such as General Patton and his effect on World War Two and General Grant and his effect on the Civil War. Finally, the paper will consist of how the leadership in the military is not one dimensional and can transfer very well into the civilian side if used correctly. This paper will dive into how veterans can utilize their skills on multiple fronts, not just in front of soldiers. Using examples of veterans successfully transitioning back into the civilian world after 30-year career’s in the military and using the leadership techniques they’ve learned and applying them in new careers.
