A CRUCIAL COROLATION: PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND THE IMPACT ON CHILDREN’S LITERARY DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The value of literacy to a human being and society as a whole, cannot be overstated. Literacy impacts every area of our lives, from reading, to shopping, to contributing to society. This paper seeks to answer the question, what is the relationship between parental involvement and literacy development in children and how can parents or guardians best support their child’s literacy development? The question posed is in response to the collective need within society to bridge the gap between high performing and low performing students in the classroom. Literacy achievement greatly depends upon early intervention, most of which begins at home. This research paper explores the relationship between parental involvement and literacy development in children. Research supports that parental involvement is key to setting a foundation for proficient literacy skills and development in children.
