Abstract
This paper attempts to show and explain the effects of poverty on the lives of people of color (African Americans). The most fascinating aspect of this research is how it dates back to slavery many many years ago it still has become a generational curse to the African American families and communities. There is a way out with education, community support, and government-efficient programs that can help lead the way to a better economic future and outlook for African American people. Success comes from within and one must take pride in their own culture to put away the cultural norms that society has placed on African American families.
