Special Education Teachers are Under Appreciated
Abstract
Research conducted to portray the duties and resilience of a special education teacher. The special education department spend countless hours preparing with and without students to accommodate their success in academics and life skills. Special education positions are found to be in extreme shortage due to the strenuous workload. Many have left the position of educating children with disabilities simply because the mental toll it takes on the individual in the career field. Special education staff have an exponential workload to take upon from just one individual. Special education educators are expected to accomplish way more in a workday than just academic success for the students they have in their classroom with disabilities. It is recommended that the Board of Education from each school district inquire more support staff for the teacher themselves and more accommodations for the teacher who is partaking in the career in each district. For each district to understand and give recognition to the special education department staff, regardless of the short comings they may face per school year. Special education teachers are extremely undervalued for the amount of love and effort that goes into their job every single day.
