The Organization of a Positive Health Care Supply Chain During Supply Chain Disruptions
Abstract
Abstract
The healthcare supply chain has always been undervalued within the healthcare organization, with many individuals perceiving that it is a role that anyone can do. Many feel that it is just managing inventory and placing orders. However, COVID-19 showed how critical the role is by having hospitals reassess their healthcare supply chain strategies to help with efficiency and costs and be prepared for the next pandemic or healthcare crisis. Now, Healthcare organizations depend more than ever on their Supply Chain Managers to make sure there is a steady and accessible supply of medical materials. Supply Chain managers wear many hats such as sourcing, forecasting, inventory management, procurement, logistics, and compliance. The responsibilities are a lot bigger than maintaining stocks; there are strategies to balance the supply and demand while optimizing costs and making sure that supplies are delivered on time. Healthcare supply chain shortages are not an option when it comes to patient care.
