Mid-America Print Council 2024 Printmaking Conference
Project Abstract
The 2024 Mid America Print Council (MAPC) biennial national conference From The Ashes is taking place October 2-6, 2024, at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. This conference will provide professional development activities, including demonstrations from nationally acclaimed artists, panel discussions on contemporary issues in printmaking, critical information for graduate programs, and connections with others in the field for successful creative careers. The research and networking opportunities at MAPC for navigating the professional world as an artist in cooperation with other members of the field are irrevocably fundamental to the futures of attending undergraduate students.
Research conducted by MSU print students at the event will include gaining an understanding of the evolution of the practice of printmaking through human innovation and utilization of natural resources in creative pursuits. Through this newfound understanding, upon the attendance of lectures and artist/scientist panels at this event, students will learn ways in which printmakers can reduce their ecological footprints and discover more environmentally friendly ways to continue upholding the tradition of printmaking in the modern world. Subjects of ecologically sustainable elements for printmaking that will be discussed and investigated at the conference include the use of varying organic print mediums and bio-based chemicals.
