Past as Future/Past Rhetorics as Repurposing.
Project Abstract
Speaker 2 extends Speaker 1’s discussion by exploring how social constructs like heroism affect our interpretations of history. In changing the meaning or perception of history (Berger, Tal, LaCapra), one can change how certain people in history are viewed, creating heroes and cultural myths. In the M-O archives, diarists offer surprising testimony that helps us understand what makes someone a survivor and what in turn makes that survivor a hero.
