Picture Word Induction Model (PWIM): Come and Learn about this Picture-Perfect Strategy!
Project Abstract
The PWIM model is perfect for all classroom settings. We will explore the usefulness of this research-based strategy and how you can start to utilize it in your room on “Monday.” We will use pictures, words, sentences, paragraphs, and eventually model how this will all turn into an essay at the end. By using this strategy you are teaching your students how easy writing can be!
Research-based reading strategies are vital for teachers to utilize and thus support learners needs in the classroom. The PWIM model is one strategy that is very effective but yet not used as often as it could be. This research-based strategy can help build and strengthen skills in all six essential pillars of literacy including: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. We will offer why a teacher should use this method, what some examples are in associate with all pillars, where we can place them into our current daily literacy schedules, and when we should use them throughout our school day/units. We will demonstrate and model each stage of the strategy while providing materials for the audience to use in their classroom on "Monday."
