Abstract/Description

The purpose of this presentation is to explore the benefits of mother-baby skin-to-skin contact (SSC), also known as kangaroo care (KC). Lack of knowledge of the method in medical professionals has impeded the utilization of kangaroo care in stable mothers and infants who could vastly benefit from the technique. Research has proven the various physical, psychological, and emotional advantages of KC for parents and newborns alike. It is recommended that medical staff be enlightened on the research evidence behind SSC. They, in turn, will educate the patients who will reap the rewards of the method and have increased satisfaction.
