Abstract/Description
Oral care is often a standard of care overlooked in the inpatient setting. Many patients don’t have the proper tools to do it themselves, don’t have the physical ability to do it themselves, or their nurse neglects to complete it throughout the shift. Performing oral care regularly in the hospital setting prevents many different illnesses including hospital acquired pneumonia. Putting an oral care policy in place would help place more of an emphasis on the importance of oral care thus helping to keep patients healthier while in the inpatient setting.
