Abstract/Description

Masculinity is a popular topic of recent debates, especially in relation to toxic masculinity. Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart” portrays masculinity in a way that can give a deeper explanation of this character trait, it can be broken down by social perspective, and can be used to give a more multicultural view of masculinity. This paper uses the characters in “Things Fall Apart” to explore masculinity and provide a more enhanced view of how to approach this topic. Making these connections are not just important to the topic of masculinity, but gender roles, feminism, and gender theory as a whole.
