Having been in clinical settings and hearing stories from nurses about the amount of harm and trouble that arises from patients who successfully commit a self-extubation makes one wonder, what else could have been done? Was it a staffing issue? Were the restraints secure? Should the medication order have been questioned and altered for that specific patient? Many things may rush through someone's head in an event such as this. This topic is more of an issue in today’s world. With an increased number of patients being placed on ventilators and intubated due to Covid-19, information such as the research this project presents is more crucial than ever.
