Reaching the Branches Through the Vine
Abstract/Description
With this Service Learning Project, we aim to broaden the audience of conservation education to include more of the public in the preservation of natural resources. We are introducing conservation messaging into Christian churches to bridge the gap between science and religion. The target audience is Christians because this community makes up a large part of not only our local population, but our world. Conservation can be viewed through a religious perspective when people are educated on how it is their duty to protect creation. To promote this messaging, our project includes creating brochures and presentations that detail various conservation topics alongside Christian ideology. The topics include biodiversity, climate change, the use of natural resources, sustainable harvesting, and invasive species. The brochures and presentations are being given to local Christian churches and organizations. This project will build community for both the Christian church and for science. Stigmas surrounding science and Chrisitanity will be reduced, and this will promote conservation conversations to happen between the two groups.
