Abstract/Description
Archives of LGBTQ+ Histories
Archives and other forms of Public History play an important role in LGBTQ+/Queer History, as means to restore previously marginalized and “hidden” histories and to challenge present day discrimination by providing accessible content on the history, diversity, and life-stories of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities. Collecting, processing, and making accessible archives of written records, artifacts, and other objects of LGBTQ+ individuals, organizations, movements, etc. are important actions of LGBTQ+/Queer historians, both professional and amateur.
In this display, students in HIS 390 share information about various archives, museums, and digital projects that highlight LGBTQ+ History. The students’ analysis provides an overview of the archives, the unique primary sources that are featured in the collections, and reflections on how accessible this content is to other undergraduate students.
