Abstract/Description
This research presentation explores the need for intraosseous (IO) vascular access training for critical care and emergency department nurses. Although IO vascular access is a highly successful route of medication administration, it is rarely used due to insufficient training and a lack of nurses’ confidence in performing the procedure. The goal of this presentation is to incorporate IO vascular access training into the orientation and continuing education modules of critical care and emergency department nurses. Through educational videos, hands-on practice, and a skills competency check-off, these nurses will feel more confident and comfortable performing IO insertions.
