Abstract/Description

This study measures the impact of flooding from Typhoon Halong in early October of 2025. Located in the Bethel Census Area, Bethel, Alaska sits on the Kuskokwim River and was subject to flooding from the storm surge caused by Typhoon Halong. Landsat 8 and 9 data was collected for the area and a change detection determined the extent of the flooding. A buffer was then calculated to determine the potential flood extent given the passover times of the Landsat satellites. Flooding rose several feet above average height and at its peak was over 9 feet of water.
