Abstract/Description

This an exploratory study examining the roles of educators in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). AAC is a form of communication that occurs non-verbally and may be used by individuals with speech, language, and intellectual disabilities. According to education and disability law, students who use AAC must be supported and included in the public education classroom. This study sought to better understand the skill level, knowledge level, and attitude of educators in regards to AAC facilitation. This information was explored at the pre-professional level by gathering the perspectives and experiences of undergraduate future teachers.
