Abstract/Description
The purpose of this research paper was to study how the mass media creates heroes and villains out of professional athletes to increase viewership. Numerous sources have concluded that the media uses various techniques to shape viewers' opinions about these athletes. This makes the athletes a strong topic to discuss for fans and their rivals. When these conversations happen, viewer interest sparks and the games become a “can’t miss” event. In conclusion this increases the mass media’s viewership
