Abstract/Description
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) accessibility and response times for the Jackson Falls rock climbing area. Jackson Falls is located within the Shawnee National Forest and is a popular climbing destination for rock climbers. By analyzing trail networks, road access points, topography, and EMS facility datasets, it is possible to recognize how response times can vary for different areas. This is important because injuries can occur while rock climbing, and with Jackson Falls being a remote location with limited cell phone signal, it is important to understand how the response times and accessible locations for EMS support can vary for different locations. The results of this study identified areas with limited EMS accessibility and determined how terrain and access routes could influence EMS response times within the Jackson Falls climbing area.
