This study showcases how spatial analysis using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) can be used to plan future business decisions. This study specifically focuses on planning best potential coffee shop locations in Evnasville, Indiana. City of Evansville property maps were used to determine current coffee shop locations. Census tract data for each coffee shop location was utilized to determine coffee shop customer demographics, such as average income level, demographic, and age. Census tracts that matched demographics, including the shops that were not privately owned/incorrect property types, and did not have a current coffee shop near by were considered potential condenders for opening a coffee shop location. The results showed where future coffee shops could go and match the demographic profile of current successful coffee shops in Evnasville, Indiana. They revealed demographic trends for coffee shop customers as well. This research showed that GIS and spatial analysis were important tools in business and marketing decisions.
