Abstract/Description

With or without intention the media in our world creates a false stigma on gender roles. Gender roles are prevalent in today’s society by forming wrong assumptions of each gender and creating false expectations for the gender as well. Our group will conduct research among varying ages and genders to determine the overall effect that gender roles play in mass media. We will use examples of 4 types of media to conduct our research. Television, Advertising, Movies and Social Media. Our project reflects George Gerbner’s Cultivation Theory which states that “the world of media entertainment presents a particular view of social reality.” Our methodology is the use of surveys which will include all 4 examples of media that we will choose.
