Abstract/Description
Given the prevalence of cardiovascular disease resulting in cardiac arrest, and the numerous debilitating effects and complications during recovery, therapeutic hypothermia has been implemented in an attempt to lessen these adverse effects. Currently, the American Heart Association (AHA) recommends the use of therapeutic hypothermia for qualifying candidates successfully resuscitated after experiencing cardiac arrest. Past use of this therapy has provided adequate results in favor of this procedure and guidelines for proper implementation into practices nationwide. With increased use of therapy, more information can be cultivated to shed light on the overall benefits of therapeutic hypothermia, and its potential use for other conditions.
