Abstract/Description

Confidentiality: The Primary Goal of Cyber Security

Abstract

In this electronic age, public and private sectors rely on electronic data processing and storing massive amounts of data in their computer systems through wired or wireless communications. Data transmission over an insecure channel from sender to receiver can lead to unauthorized access by unknown, and unauthorized parties. This issue leads to compromising the confidentiality of the sensitive data. The goal of cyber security is to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data. Encryption is the first step in information security to maintain the confidentiality of a user’s data by protecting it from the prying eyes of unauthorized parties. “Encryption” is the process of converting plaintext data to scrambled data. Cryptosystems can be classified as either public-key cryptosystems or private-key cryptosystems. This poster explains the RSA Public-Key Cryptosystem encryption procedure and essential features including authentication, authorization to maintain data confidentiality, and its operational efficiency when combined with the Advanced Encryption Standard Private Key Cryptosystem. This poster describes the importance of encryption in various sectors like education, the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and financial applications to reduce potential loss through cyber-attacks. It includes discussion of the potentially lucrative careers available as cryptographers and cryptanalysts which can contribute to strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity.
