Abstract/Description

The use of remote sensing techniques in precision agriculture has been widely used for better accuracy of crop monitoring. Cropping schedule can be developed by using satellite data in an area. The usage of previous yield data and prediction of crop performance can be done by continuous monitoring of the crop condition and making a plan for farming operations. The crop acreage can also be shown in the maps using ArcMap. After the implementation of farm bill 2018, hemp is legalized for cultivation for industrial purposes with some restrictions in the US. In Kentucky, the cultivation of hemp has been increasing since the new farm bill which leads to the elimination of tobacco crop for replacing it with hemp cultivation. This project will mainly discuss the replacement of tobacco cultivation with hemp in Kentucky by using the crop acreage data of hemp and tobacco crops in Kentucky in the recent years. The change maps of tobacco crop before and after implementation of 2018 farm bill and maps with counties growing hemp instead of tobacco after 2018 can show how tobacco crop is replaced with hemp cultivation in Kentucky.
