Abstract/Description

My thesis will examine the Absent Parent and Found Family tropes in the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire. I argue that in Queer Fantasy YA Literature the absent parent is a catalyst for the found family. I'll begin with Every Heart A Doorway to explore how the tropes work together in the queer fantasy genre. The tropes aren’t new, but in the context of Queer YA literature they have a different meaning to characters and readers.

Key Words: young adult literature; fantasy; queer theory; queer literary studies; Wayward Children
