Abstract/Description

The purpose of this research is to explore the vibrational mating signals of the newly discovered insect, Hebetica sylviae. Using the previously recorded mating signals of the treehopper by Dr. Laura Sullivan Beckers, the treehoppers’ total time spent signaling were analyzed, along with the particular type of signals produced. These different signal types are important for describing their roles in this species' mating systems. Due to the nature of this species being recently discovered, this research will be important in understanding key aspects in the behavioral ecology of Hebetica sylviae.
