Abstract/Description

Olanzapine (Zyprexa) has been experimented for additional use than the medication has been originally utilized for. This medication has been used to relieve symptoms of nausea and vomiting specifically for chemotherapy patients. The patients that meet the criteria for this medication have been through trials that result in positive outcomes as well as having few side effects. Though there are antiemetics that can be used for these symptoms; however, they have been shown through trials that they are least effective compared to Zyprexa. The objective is to provide evidence, education, and implementation of a policy for hospice patients who undergo these long-lasting symptoms. The initiation of a policy will be implemented at a hospice facility that would be on an as needed basis if the patients have met the criteria based on assessments from the nursing staff. The promotion of quality of life is essential for these patients that would benefit more than hospice patients, but any patient who has chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting symptoms.
